NBA 2K25 Patch 1.3 Now Available

NBA 2K25 Patch 1.3 Now Available

Patch 1.3 is now available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X version of NBA 2K25. As with all title updates, it should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

The release notes for NBA 2K25 Patch 1.3 are as follows:

  • Addressed an issue that could cause multiple versions of MyPLAYER to appear in the NBA in MyCAREER and potentially prevent certain quests from completing.
  • Fixed a hang that some users were reporting when attempting to use the Social menu.
  • Resolved error messages and other reported problems when attempting to launch the PC version under certain conditions.
  • Fixed connection issues that could occur when playing Starting 5 games in the City.
  • Stability and performance changes have been made to improve the overall playing experience.

I’ve created an article in our Wiki to document all of the patch notes for the PC, PS5, and XSX version of NBA 2K25, which you can find here. As always, the community is welcome to help us keep our Wiki resources up to date, so by all means add future patch notes if I don’t get there first. Feel free to share any thoughts on the update in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion here in the Forum!

NBA 2K24 Season 8 Patch Out Now

NBA 2K24 Season 8 Patch Out Now

I’ll admit that between my lack of enthusiasm for NBA 2K24 and the frequent absence of detailed patch notes, I’ve not been on top of posting news about the official updates this year. With that being said, Season 8 is tipping off in NBA 2K24 this Friday, and as such, a new patch is available. As always, it should come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try checking for updates manually, or restarting your console or Steam client.

It appears that 2K has given up on updating the release notes over on the official website, but according to a post on the official NBA 2K Community Discord, it simply prepares the game for Season 8 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM. At this point of the year, that’s about all we can expect! A further patch for Season 9 should be dropping in about six weeks, and that will take us through to the release of NBA 2K25.

You can find a history of patch notes for NBA 2K24 (such as they are, in most cases) for both the Next Gen and Current Gen versions over in our Wiki. I’ve also added information about the Season 7 update, which I previously neglected to post. As always, if you have any thoughts on the Season 8 patch or the game in general, feel free to share them in the comments below, or join in the discussion in our NBA 2K24 Forum.

The Friday Five: 5 Basic Features We Take For Granted

The Friday Five: 5 Basic Features We Take For Granted

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is a list of five basic features in basketball video games that we take for granted.

There are a number of basic features in a modern basketball game that have become firmly entrenched as essential, at least if you want the game to be good! The genre has come a long way, and even though I still have tremendous fondness for the early classics, I’m also aware of their shortcomings. Of course, many of the basic features that were once innovations did come along in the mid to late 90s, so we’ve had them for decades now. To that point though, it’s all too easy to take some of those basic features for granted, especially if you didn’t grow up with the more primitive titles.

“Primitive” is the operative word here. When video games as a whole were in their infancy, those first steps towards what we have now did feel like huge strides. On top of that, technical limitations meant that games couldn’t have the same level of depth and detail as they do now, or even a couple of generations ago. Nevertheless, it’s still interesting to look back at some early basketball video games – as I obviously enjoy doing for Wayback Wednesday – and note how some of the basic features that we now take for granted are nowhere to be found. This doesn’t mean that we can’t and shouldn’t criticise modern games, but it’s a reminder of the progress that’s been made.

College Hoops 2K8 V1.10 Update

College Hoops 2K8 Cover Art

As frustrating as it is to lose fantastic mods, there’s always a chance that they can be re-created. The same can’t be said for official patches and updates, and we’ve certainly seen a number of them disappear over the years as well. To that point though, BPDHoplite has preserved and uploaded the V1.10 update for the PlayStation 3 version of College Hoops 2K8. Download the PKG file at the link below!

NBA 2K24 Season 6 Patch Out Now

NBA 2K24 Season 6 Patch Out Now

Season 6 has tipped off in NBA 2K24, which means a new patch is now available! As always, the update will come through automatically as long as your PC or console is online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console or Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

In addition to adding content and otherwise preparing NBA 2K24 for Season 6, the patch fixes some details with current and classic jerseys and courts. It also corrects an issue with MyTEAM Agendas, adjusts the requirements for Devin Booker’s spin jumper animation, and includes some other technical and stability fixes.

Full patch notes can be found below, though once again, they’re only confirmed for the Next Gen version of NBA 2K24. As always, you can find the update histories for the Current Gen (as much as we can confirm, anyway) and Next Gen versions of NBA 2K24 in our Wiki. Feel free to share any thoughts and impressions in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the Forum.

As per the patch notes, the developers are concentrating on the most user-impacting issues that are being reported. A larger update with more comprehensive fixes will be released prior to Season 2, but in the meantime, Patch 1.2 for NBA 2K24 addresses the rim physics bugs on controllable rim hangs, adjusts difficulty in Triple Threat Online: Co-Op and requirements for the Minimizer quest in MyCAREER, and makes some other tweaks and technical fixes.

The Friday Five: 5 Things You’ll See In Unpatched Games

The Friday Five: 5 Things You'll See In Unpatched Games

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five is a list of five things that you’ll see in games that are unpatched.

Patches are a contentious issue among gamers, and basketball video games are no exception. No game is perfect, and some issues are bound to slip by QA and won’t be discovered until a game is in the public’s hands. Naturally, we want to see those problems resolved via official patches, especially when there’s no viable unofficial fix. At the same time, we’re wary of undesirable changes being made to games that we’re enjoying, as we have seen games ruined by their updates. Day one patches are also the subject of scorn, being seen as an excuse to release unfinished games.

As such, many of us have mixed feelings whenever we receive a notification that a new update is waiting to be downloaded. With that being said, I’d much rather see regular updates than have to beg for them as we used to, or not get them at all. When you look back at certain titles in their unpatched state, you’ll see missing content, features, and functionality that really needed to be there, as in these five examples. Please note that I’m intentionally excluding the 1998 rosters in NBA Live 99. While it’s a notable example of the phenomenon, all games inevitably launch with outdated rosters. These five examples are more unique side effects of a game being unpatched.

NBA 2K23 Patch 9.0 Released

NBA 2K23 Patch 9.0 Released

And so, we enter end game! The preview season for NBA 2K24 ramps up this week and its release is looming on the horizon, but there’s one more Season to play in NBA 2K23 MyTEAM and MyCAREER. As such, Patch 9.0 has come through for NBA 2K23 this week on all platforms. It should download automatically as long as you’re online; if it doesn’t, try restarting your Steam client or console, or checking for updates manually.

At this point, it seems that 2K has given up on official patch notes. However, there obviously aren’t any major fixes or changes taking place this late in the lifecycle of NBA 2K23, so we can take it as read that Patch 9.0 simply updates the game for Season 9 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER.

Although we don’t have any detailed notes once again, you can find the update histories for the Next Gen and Current Gen versions of NBA 2K23 over in our Wiki. Feel free to post any thoughts in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion in our NBA 2K23 Forum. Also, don’t forget to stay tuned for more details on NBA 2K24! I’ll be aggregating the news as it comes through, and Dee and I will be discussing the developments on the NLSC Podcast.

NBA 2K23 Patch 8.0 Released

NBA 2K23 Patch 8.0 Released

Patch 8.0 has come through for NBA 2K23 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and should be out on PC soon. As always, the new update will come through automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try checking for updates manually, or restarting your console/Steam client.

The new update prepares the game for Season 8 in MyCAREER and MyTEAM. There are no further patch notes or word of any other fixes/changes at this time, but if anything is posted, I’ll be sure to update the listing below, as well as add the details to our Next Gen and Current Gen update histories.

However, 2K has shared details on what to expect from Season 8. The season will be Kevin Durant-themed, with the MyCAREER rewards including an additional Badge Point, the final Core Badge Pattern, a tiger, and various cosmetic items. MyTEAM will of course be receiving new cards, including the End Game series.

Season 8 tips off this Friday, so the PC patch should be out by then to ensure everything is in place and ready to go. In the meantime, feel free to add your thoughts in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion in our NBA 2K23 Forum.

NBA 2K23 Patch 7.0 Released

NBA 2K23 Patch 7.0 Released

Season 7 will be tipping off this Friday in NBA 2K23, which means Patch 7.0 has been pushed through. As of writing, it’s available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The PC patch should be out in time for the new Season. As always, the patch will be downloaded automatically as long as you’re online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console/Steam client, or checking for updates manually.

In addition to preparing MyCAREER and MyTEAM for Season 7, the patch includes a handful of player likeness updates and stability fixes. Notably, it resolves a rare hang in MyTEAM when two cards from the same pack receive a walkout reveal, fixes an errant wipe in Rec and Pro-Am games, and addresses a bug with Start Today related to Playoff progression.

You can find the full notes for NBA 2K23 Patch 7.0 below, as well as in the Next Gen and Current Gen update histories in our Wiki. Feel free to add your impressions in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion in our NBA 2K23 Forum!

The Friday Five: 5 Decisions That Burned Goodwill

The Friday Five: 5 Decisions That Burned Goodwill

Welcome to another edition of The Friday Five! Every Friday I cover a topic related to basketball gaming, either as a list of five items, or a Top 5 countdown. The topics for these lists and countdowns include everything from fun facts and recollections to commentary and critique. This week’s Five lists five decisions that burned goodwill with basketball gamers.

As a fanbase, we basketball gamers have demonstrated that we’ll put up with a lot. There have been a number of decisions and debacles with hoops gamers over the years that should’ve cost companies dearly, but most of us are back the very next year, buying the new release. In our defense, we do have an interest in getting a new game for the latest season, and unfortunately we don’t have the variety in the space that we once did. At the same time, we’ve become far too tolerant of issues that other fanbases would protest far more passionately.

With that being said, there have been decisions – particularly from EA Sports and 2K – that have burned goodwill. Quality was obviously a problem for NBA Live that ended up eroding significant trust in the brand, but to that point, it also squandered goodwill that it established in its heyday. NBA 2K has maintained a higher quality and sold far better, but there are gamers who do follow through on their insistence that they’ll boycott future releases. Even if the bottom line isn’t affected, these decisions that burn goodwill still damage a game’s reputation, to the point where we don’t feel the same brand affinity as before. In short, this is how publishers have lost face and fans alike.
