NBL 2K20 Mod Demo Now Available for NBA 2K20 PC

NBL 2K20 Mod Demo

Back in Episode #331 of the NLSC Podcast, I mentioned an NBL mod as a roster project I’d like to take a run at, if I ever had the time. As it turned out, I wasn’t the only one with that idea. More importantly, they also had the time and inclination to get it done! MonkeyManJSV, Shuajota, Xiskeg, Mahmood, Dlubell, losjosh, PettyPaulPierce, Krush, Thadoughboy15, Evy53 and karinge have been hard at work on an NBL 2K20 mod for NBA 2K20 PC, and a demo version is now available.

The demo allows you to replay the Finals matchup between the Sydney Kings and Perth Wildcats. Both teams have accurate jerseys and player faces, and even the basketball has been updated for maximum authenticity. You can download the NBL 2K20 demo here, and find the support/release topic here in the Forum. Also see below for a video showcasing gameplay with the mod.

Please note that as is the case with all total conversion mods – and 99.9% of uploads in our community, for that matter – this project is for PC only. The console versions of basketball games simply don’t facilitate the same level of modding that’s feasible on PC. MonkeyManJSV and company are working hard to get the full mod completed, so stay tuned for further updates!

NBA Street Vol. 2 Legendary Edition Mod Released

NBA Street Vol. 2 Legendary Edition Mod

Some of you may recall the updates for the GameCube version of NBA Street Vol. 2 that were released some years back. Building upon those modding projects, agent_michael_scarn has just released a new update for the game titled “NBA Street Vol. 2 Legendary Edition”.

The mod is definitely worthy of Barney Stinson’s favourite catchphrase, as this comprehensive update for a beloved classic is indeed legen…wait for it…dary! It features 2020 season rosters updated as of the NBA Bubble restart, along with legendary players for each squad. All team logos and jerseys have also been updated for the current season, and player ratings are based on NBA 2K20 attributes wherever possible. A few elements from the older mods also remain.

You can pick up NBA Street Vol. 2 Legendary Edition here in our Downloads database! For more information on how to install it, as well as previews, further support, or if you just want to say thanks, check out this topic in the Forum. You can also go back and check out some of the older updates by JaoSming, johnz1, and Mazzochi, which can be found in the Other Basketball Games section of our Downloads database. Check out a complete roster listing for the mod here.

Monday Tip-Off: The Art of Minimalist Modding

Monday Tip-Off: The Art of Minimalist Modding

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with a look at the idea of minimalist modding.

With all the tools and techniques that our modding community has developed for NBA Live and NBA 2K over the years, we’ve been able to produce some fantastic projects. From detailed current rosters and multi-season packs to NCAA mods and other total conversions, we’ve been able to re-skin the game and create brand new experiences. These projects can take a long time to complete, but it’s very satisfying to see them come together, for both the creator and the community. I can attest to that, having been involved in quite a few large roster projects over the years.

Of course, these fantastic projects do have their drawbacks. They can be incredibly time-consuming, so even if you have the skills to create all the necessary assets, it’s much easier if you have a few other people helping out. To that point, not everyone can do it all when it comes to modding, so it’s usually necessary to assemble a team or rely on some community contributions to get everything done. As you can imagine, the amount of time and effort required can lead to multiple delays, or projects falling through. It’s why I’ve become intrigued with the idea of creating larger projects that don’t require as much external effort; something I’m calling minimalist modding.

1992 Season Mod for NBA 2K19 PC by Stildo33

1992 Season Mod for NBA 2K19 PC

It’s tougher to create comprehensive roster mods for the current generation of NBA 2K games, but with the help of several contributors, Stildo33 has released a 1992 Season Mod for NBA 2K19 PC! The mod, currently in V1.1, is extremely detailed with complete rosters and accurate retro artwork, from player faces to stadium branding.

There are two versions of the mod available: one intended for use in Play Now, and one that is MyLEAGUE compatible. To download the mod through the Roster Creator, search for 1992 SEASON for the Play Now roster, and 1992 SEASON MYLEAGUE for the MyLEAGUE compatible version.

You’ll also need to download the art pack, which you can find in the mod’s release topic. Be sure to check out the release topic for more information and previews! Stildo33 also has a 1993 Season Mod in the works for NBA 2K19; more information on that project can be found here.

NBA Jam 2K17 Now Available (Super Nintendo Mod)

NBA Jam 2K17 Logo

Exciting news, NBA Jam fans! Millertime2325 has completed his NBA Jam 2K17 mod for the Super Nintendo version of NBA Jam Tournament edition. The mod is available to download here over on his blog.

It features all 30 NBA teams (including New Orleans, Toronto, and Memphis) and 117 of the top players in the league, with rosters accurate as of January 1st, 2017. You’ll also find NBA Legends such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, and a couple of other secret players in the spirit of the original game.

I’m hoping to get a video review of the mod done as soon as possible, but in the meantime, the release of NBA Jam 2K17 has been picked up by Kotaku. Millertime2325 has also put together a launch trailer, which you can watch below, or check out here on YouTube if you can’t see the embedded video.

It’s a fantastic mod for a classic arcade basketball game, so I highly recommend checking it out. Further information and previews can be found in this thread in our Forum, so be sure to stop by and thank Millertime2325 for all his hard work.

Speaking of thanking Millertime2325, if you’d like to show your appreciation for NBA Jam 2K17, he’s asking if people would consider making a donation to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A cancer survivor himself, he’ll be running the Boston Marathon in April this year, in an effort to raise $10,000 for the cause. You can read more about his story here, and make a donation here.
