NBA 2K22 Patch 1.6 Out Now on PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X

NBA 2K22 Patch 1.6

As you may have seen, Patch 1.6 has come through for NBA 2K22 Next Gen. The patch should begin downloading automatically as long as your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S is online. If it doesn’t come through, try restarting your console or checking for updates manually.

Patch 1.6 includes 39 likeness updates for both current and historical NBA and WNBA players. It also resolves some issues in MyCAREER quests, and a rare disconnect that was occurring in The W Online. A few problems in MyTEAM have also been addressed, and injuries have been disabled in Draft games.

The update originally caused some corruption issues with user data and saves, which 2K has ascribed to temporary server problems. It appears as though the issue has since been resolved for some people, but if you are still encountering difficulties, you may want to open a ticket with 2K Support.

You can find the full notes for Patch 1.6 below, as well as in our NBA 2K22 Next Gen update history. Feel free to add your thoughts and impressions in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.

NBA 2K22 Official Patch Details & History

NBA 2K22 Official Patch Details & History

As I’ve been chasing up my pre-order of NBA 2K22 Next Gen since launch, I’ve neglected to post bulletins about the official patch releases. I’ve since caught up on all of the details and added them to our Wiki, as well as posted them in the Forum.

So far, the Current Gen version hasn’t received any detailed patch notes, except to say that there are stability fixes and no gameplay adjustments. However, there are details on the latest official patch for NBA 2K22 Next Gen, which added traditional broadcast cameras to MyNBA, improved loading speeds in The City, and addressed some disconnection issues.

You can find the full notes for Patches 1.4 and 1.5 for NBA 2K22 Next Gen below. Moving forward, I’ll be posting bulletins when new patches are pushed through, as well as adding the details to the update history in our Wiki and Forum resources. You can find the Current Gen/PC update history here, and the discussion topic here in the Forum. The update history for Next Gen can be found here in the Wiki, and you can join in the discussion in this Forum topic.

NLSC Podcast #392: First Impressions of NBA 2K22

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #392 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this weekly podcast that’s all about basketball gaming.

NBA 2K22 is out, and many people are calling it the best NBA 2K game ever. We’re not so sure about that, but we do have some initial impressions to share, including lists of pros and cons for Current Gen and Next Gen. An issue with the PC release will also hopefully be sorted out ASAP. The addition of Evan Eschmeyer to the 2003 Mavericks prompts us to share some interesting trivia about his career, and its impact on the virtual hardwood. Elsewhere, the NBA Live 10 Tournament rolls on with some exciting games, and NBA 2K14 continues to be a captivating retro kick. In this week’s mailbag, we’re reflecting on some memorable basketball video game launches, and titles that impressed us from Day One.

NBA 2K22 Downloads Sections & Forums Opened

NBA 2K22 Downloads Sections & Forums Opened

The preview season is over, and NBA 2K22 has arrived! Over the next few days, many of us will be getting our hands on the new game, whether it’s on PC, a Current Gen console, or a Next Gen console. Since our community will be modding the PC version of NBA 2K22, our Downloads database has been updated with the appropriate sections.

Additionally, I’ve gone ahead and created the Modding and Tutorials & FAQs forums for NBA 2K22. The Modding section is where all mods, previews, and modding questions should be posted. As always, new topics can only be posted in the Tutorials section by NLSC staff members and Contributors. If you’d like to share a tutorial or resource, feel free to post it in the Modding section, and a moderator will move it ASAP. More information can be found in this topic.

I’d like to remind the community that our upload facilities are free and available to everyone with an NLSC Forum account (which is also free!). If you need any help using those facilities, check out this video tutorial which explains how to upload and maintain files. I hope that we can continue to be a productive, helpful, and welcoming modding community. Incidentally, I’ve thrown out a few ideas on how we could improve things in this week’s Friday Five.

Finally, in addition to the new modding forums and Downloads database sections, I’ve added an NBA 2K22 portal here on the main site. Any help maintaining information on the game in our Wiki would also be very much appreciated. Feel free to jump into the conversation about NBA 2K22 in the Forum, and keep that conversation going throughout its life cycle. From modding and sliders to gameplay tips and impressions, we want to produce a lot of content and have spirited discussion about NBA 2K22. I hope you’ll be a part of that, and hopefully, most of us will find enjoyment in 2K’s latest release. Happy 2K Day!

NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details: MySTAFF, Training, New Teams

NBA 2K22 MyNBA Details

The latest Courtside Report (aka Developer Blog) provides a breakdown of what to expect from MyNBA in NBA 2K22. For those who are unaware, MyNBA is the Next Gen franchise mode that encompasses the MyLEAGUE, MyLEAGUE Online, and MyGM experiences found on Current Gen. As such, the blog only applies to the Next Gen version of NBA 2K22.

Key enhancements this year include MySTAFF, a new approach to managing team staff from coaches and scouts to front office executives. Team and player training has been revamped, along with improved spreadsheet views. Three new pre-built expansion teams have also been added, along with conditional coaching options when simulating games.

Once again, I’ve summarised the key information point-by-point below. What are your thoughts on MyNBA in NBA 2K22 Next Gen? Have your say in the comments, and join in the discussion here in the Forum! As per the previously released schedule, this is the final developer insight that’s been announced, though it’s possible we’ll see some additional previews and teasers before NBA 2K22 is released this Friday.

Wayback Wednesday: That Weird NBA 2K21 Zion Next Gen Trailer

Wayback Wednesday: That Weird NBA 2K21 Zion Next Gen Trailer

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, I’m taking a look back at that weird Zion trailer for NBA 2K21 Next Gen.

Way back in the fourth season of The Simpsons, in the classic episode “Mr. Plow”, Homer becomes…well, Mr. Plow. At first his business succeeds, thanks in small part to his creation of a surprisingly competent commercial. When Homer begins to lose customers to Barney’s Plow King business, he seeks the help of an ad agency that ends up creating a commercial that is a hilarious send-up of just about every artsy, pseudo intellectual advertisement that has barely anything to do with the product or service in question.

To me, that’s the perfect analogy for the weird Zion teaser trailer for the Next Gen version of NBA 2K21. It was weird, it had questionable imagery, and judging by some YouTube comments, it offended a few people as well. Normally I’d wait a bit longer to cover basketball games and basketball gaming subjects in my Wayback Wednesday features, but hey, it was over a year ago, so I’ll bend the rules on this occasion. Let’s take a look back…a little way back…

NLSC Podcast #384: A Couple of Pre-Ordering, PC Nerds

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #384 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this weekly podcast that’s all about basketball gaming.

The cover players, release date, and pre-order bonuses for NBA 2K22 have been revealed, confirming leaks and speculation, and drawing some boorish comments about one player in particular. Unfortunately, the PC version will be a prior gen port once again this year, and we have some thoughts to share on that. Despite the remarks of one wannabe content creator, PC gamers have a right to be dismayed…and to play NBA 2K, for that matter. The lack of a demo on all platforms is likewise disappointing. Elsewhere, a Tweet mentioning a partnership between LeBron James and EA has people talking, though we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves (again). We also touch on Steam Deck, and some listener responses to last week’s mailbag topics.

NBA 2K21 Next Gen Patch 1.10 Now Available

NBA 2K21 Next Gen Patch 1.10

Patch 1.10 is now available for the Next Gen version of NBA 2K21. As always, it should come through automatically as long as your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S is online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console, or checking for updates manually.

The new patch includes updated floors and dornas for the 2021 WNBA season. It also fixes the heights of generated AI players in The Rec, and adds a 1v1 court with a CPU opponent to Rookieville so that new players can more readily gain access to The City. The latter fix addresses an issue that I discussed in detail in a previous article.

I’ve added the official release notes to the NBA 2K21 Next Gen update history in our Wiki, and you can also find them below. Feel free to share any thoughts and impressions in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.

NLSC Podcast #380: Why Isn’t This On PC?

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #380 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this weekly podcast that’s all about basketball gaming.

We’re not sure if it’s a first for modding as a whole, but we may have engaged in the first remote modding session in the history of our community! Our efforts ensured that we’ll be able to set up retro teams in NBA Live 10 quickly and easily, which we’ve already tried with fun results. We’ve also revisited NBA Jam: On Fire Edition and NBA Street Vol. 2 this week, and were reminded why we love them. Of course, it also makes us wistful about the current selection of basketball titles. Meanwhile, Madden 22 PC being a Current Gen port raises some concerns. We also catch up on recent mod releases including NBL 2K21 and a great Larry Bird face, and note a potential NBA 2K22 leak. In this week’s mailbag, we recall NBA Action 95 for the Sega Genesis, and compare toxicity among NBA 2K gamers to other communities.

NBA 2K21 Next Gen Patch 1.09 Now Available

NBA 2K21 Next Gen Patch 1.09 Now Available

Patch 1.09 is now available for the Next Gen version of NBA 2K21. As always, it will come through automatically as long as your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S is online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console, or checking for updates manually.

The new patch updates the WNBA jerseys for the league’s 2021 season. It also includes face updates for 40 players, addresses issues with downloading custom designs in MyNBA, and resolves a rare hang in MyWNBA. Presumably, the Current Gen version will be receiving the likeness updates in a forthcoming patch as well.

You can find the release notes for Patch 1.09 below, as well as a complete update history for NBA 2K21 Next Gen here in our Wiki. Feel free to share your impressions in the comments below, as well as join in the discussion here in the NLSC Forum.

Monday Tip-Off: Rookieville Was A Terrible Idea

Monday Tip-Off: Rookieville Was A Terrible Idea

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with the not-so-controversial declaration that Rookieville in NBA 2K21 Next Gen’s MyCAREER was a terrible idea.

I don’t want to say I told you so, but my track record with predictions is hit and miss, so I’ll take the opportunity to say: I told you so. Well, maybe not you, specifically. Perhaps like me, you saw the concept of Rookieville in NBA 2K21 Next Gen’s MyCAREER, and realised it was terrible idea. Perhaps you saw it for the gatekeeping measure that it is, instantly giving The City an air of elitism. If so, you looked past all the bells and whistles, and the admittedly impressive loading times, to see the issues with the approach. As such, you won’t be surprised that it’s drawing criticism.

Of course, fanboys and shills couldn’t see the drawbacks; or at the very least, didn’t want to acknowledge them. To actually take a deep dive into the problems with The City, and Rookieville in particular, is to be a spoilsport in their eyes. Why are we daring to hate on such a cool idea? Don’t we like fun? Aren’t we good enough to get past Rookieville and into The City? As I pointed out in my previous article, it’s not that getting past Rookieville is difficult; it’s that it’s unnecessary and problematic. It’s not surprising that fanboys and shills are ignoring the issue and bleating defensively, but it’s concerning that no one at Visual Concepts was thinking ahead here.

Wayback Wednesday: NBA Live 06 Xbox 360 Revisited

Wayback Wednesday: NBA Live 06 Xbox 360 Revisited

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, I’m taking a look back at NBA Live 06 on Xbox 360, and following up on my previous retrospective of the game.

When I covered NBA Live 06 as part of my retrospectives for the 25th Anniversary of NBA Live, I noted that the PC/current gen release and the Xbox 360 version received very different responses. NBA Live 06 on PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox was generally well-regarded, whereas the Xbox 360 release is seen as the beginning of the series’ downfall. I would still agree with that assessment, but as I mentioned in Episode #363 of the NLSC Podcast, I’ve been having some second thoughts about the quality of the Xbox 360 version of NBA Live 06.

That’s not to say that I think it’s the best game in the series, or that it wasn’t a major misstep in many ways. However, after firing up the game as part of my research for an article, I ended up playing a full game and really enjoyed myself. Considering that I described NBA Live 06 on Xbox 360 as having vastly inferior gameplay to the PC version in my aforementioned retrospective, it prompted me to spend some more time with the game and see if my opinion of it changed. Obviously it still has many issues, but does the reputation of NBA Live 06 on Xbox 360 overshadow some of its good points? Let’s take a look back…way back…

NBA 2K21 Next Gen Patch 1.08 Now Available

NBA 2K21 Next Gen Patch 1.08

Patch 1.08 is now available for NBA 2K21 Next Gen. As always, it should come through automatically as long as your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S is online. If it doesn’t, try restarting your console, or checking for updates manually.

The latest update is considerably smaller than the previous patch, and is more of a hotfix to address a few issues. The full notes are as follows:

  • Improved player lighting and shadows in The City during daytime hours
  • Improved an issue that was causing slow bootup times for some PS5 users. More improvements to come
  • Addressed a potential hang in MyNBA Online when accepting trade offers

Details on Patch 1.08 have been added to the update history for NBA 2K21 Next Gen over in our Wiki. Feel free to share your impressions in the comments, as well as join in the discussion taking place here in the NLSC Forum.

Monday Tip-Off: Current Gen Rec vs Next Gen Rec

Monday Tip-Off: Current Gen Rec vs Next Gen Rec

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with a comparison of my experiences playing Rec games in the Current Gen and Next Gen versions of NBA 2K21.

Back in December last year, I declared that The Rec in NBA 2K21 was garbage. I stand by that opinion, and the conclusions I drew about who we should blame for the current state of the mode. In short, blame can be attributed to toxic attitudes within the basketball gaming community, but Visual Concepts themselves share responsibility given how the online scene panders to elitism and focuses on pushy recurrent revenue mechanics. The Rec went from being a hit-and-miss experience that could be quite fun at the best of times, to an absolute nightmare.

And so, I gave up on it. It was a healthy decision, especially since I wanted to move away from MyCAREER and its connected experiences. As unfortunate as it was that it took all the fun being sucked out of the mode to break my habit, it did at least prove to be adequate incentive. Of course, I did still dabble with MyCAREER in NBA 2K21 Next Gen in order to play through the story and earn a Trophy, with a view to playing the occasional online game. If nothing else, I was curious to see if anything would change, and wanted to keep tabs on the scene in order to advocate for improvements. With that being said, what is The Rec like on Next Gen compared to Current Gen?

NLSC Podcast #368: You Say Ancient, We Say Classic

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #368 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this weekly podcast that’s all about basketball gaming.

Picking up some extra copies of NBA 2K12 has revealed some interesting details, but we’re still searching for answers about a possible limited edition cover. Meanwhile, comments on a recent YouTube video underscore how NBA 2K21 Next Gen wasn’t the leap that many gamers were hoping for. Speaking of NBA 2K’s future, we discuss Visual Concepts’ recent acquisition of HookBang, and what it means for the series. We also have some thoughts on remarks from Sony’s Jim Ryan regarding backwards compatibility, and his dismissal of classic games as unplayable. In this week’s mailbag, we’re building our own arcade basketball game based on one of three classic titles, and recalling our experiences with Sony’s NBA series.
